Frankfurt – Restrictions: Municipal schools and child-care facilities

Child-care facilities and day-care centres

The State of Hessen has directed that from Monday 16 March until the end of the Easter holidays on 17 April there will be no more childcare offered in creches, kindergartens, and day-care facilities. This applies to all such institutions and also to nannies. The only exceptions are the children of whom both parents or a single parent work in the following sectors:

  • Healthcare, medical and care facilities
  • Emergency services, disaster response departments and the fire brigade
  • Police or prison authorities, including law enforcement and comparable areas
  • Critical infrastructure (electricity, water, sewage, IT and telecoms)

A list of the relevant services can be found online at https://soziales.hessen.de/gesundheit/infektionsschutz/coronavirus-sars-cov-2/umgang-mit-corona-kita-und-kindertagespflegestellen.

All parents who come under one of the above groups are requested to immediately present proof of their occupation at the creches and kindergarten. They will then without delay receive separate information about which facilities will care for their child/children going forward. Until then, they should continue to take their child/children to the creche/kindergarten where they are currently registered

There are no services for children if they are

  • ill
  • came into contact with infected persons
  • were in one of the risk regions at some point during the last fortnight.

Children returning from a place deemed a risk region by the Robert Koch Institute should be quarantined for 14 days before returning to a child-care facility. A list of the risk regions can be consulted by clicking here: https://www.rki.de/DE/Content/InfAZ/N/Neuartiges_Coronavirus/Risikogebiete.html.

To protect our senior citizens, we advise that grandparents should not care for the children.

For further information contact your childcare centre or check out the relevant organization’s Website or Facebook page.

Schools and extended school support

The State of Hessen Ministry of Culture has directed that from Monday 26 March there be no more regular lessons at all schools through 17 April. On Monday, pupils and teachers can pick up their personal effects and learning materials from school, but from Tuesday there will only be emergency lessons in small groups.

The plan is for the written high school graduation exams to take place. Moreover, several dates will be set where the exams can be sat subsequently, enabling all students to take their exams and complete high school in the course of the current 2019-20 school year. Further information on the high school graduation exams can be expected soon.

All excursions, exchange programmes, and school trips scheduled from now until the end of the 2019-20 school year have been cancelled. This covers all school trips and all events organized outside of schools, irrespective of whether the destination is classified as a risk region or not. The State of Hessen will cover the cancellation charges invoiced by the organizers.

Mother language-based lessons on Saturdays that use school rooms during the weekend will likewise be discontinued until 17 April. The same applies to training or events held by sports clubs and other clubs that use school premises.

The State of Hessen Ministry of Culture Website provides in-depth details.
